Women’s Snooker Set for Sydney Return

The Australian Women’s Snooker Open will return to the World Women’s Snooker Tour for the first time since 2019 when it takes place later this year.

Scheduled to run from 2-5 October, the event will be the second WWS ranking event held as part of our return to competition, following September’s UK Championship.

As in previous years, the event will be organised by the Australian Billiards and Snooker Council (ABSC) and WWS. The Mt Pritchard District and Community Club, known as ‘Mounties’ in the western suburbs of Sydney, Australia, will once against host the competition.

Previously won by Hong Kong’s Ng On Yee (2018) and Thailand’s Nutcharut Wongharuthai (2019), the event has been proven popular with local and international players alike since its introduction to the WWS calendar.

The event has provided realistic opportunities for women from Australia and surrounding countries to be a part of the WWS Tour, to the extent that only England can currently boast more than the 22 players Australia has on the current world ranking list. It has also provided further competition for players based in Asia, who had previously been required to travel to Europe to compete on the circuit.

Both WWS and the ABSC will continue to monitor the international travel restrictions in place in Australia due to coronavirus and advise further close to the event.
