The second World Women’s Snooker (WWS) Tour ranking tournament of the season, the Taom UK Women’s Snooker Championship will be held from 22-24 September 2023 at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds, England.
The venue has hosted the prestigious event since 2015 and will welcome its largest ever field with an impressive 45 entries received including eight of the world’s top 10.
Among the biggest name are record 11-time champion Reanne Evans – unbeaten in the tournament since 2018 – world number one Mink Nutcharut and multiple time UK champions Ng On Yee and Tessa Davidson. Reigning world champion Baipat Siripaporn, British Open winner Bai Yulu and two-time ranking event winner last season Jamie Hunter will also be chasing their first silverware of the campaign.
The tournament will also see a UK debut for World Cup winning duo Amee Kamani and Anupama Ramachandran of India, while there are also tour returns for Hannah Ward and Katrina Wan after breaks of eight and five years from the circuit respectively.
Alongside the main competition, there will also be side-tournaments held for both Seniors and Under-21 players, as well as the held over British Open final between Bai Yulu and Sophie Nix from earlier in the year.
Finally, there will be a Challenge Cup competition staged on Sunday, for players already knocked out of the main competition prior to the last 16.
The event will be sponsored for a second successive year by Taom Billiards, pioneers of the revolutionary Taom V10 chalk used by many snooker players around the world.
Format
The format will be as follows:
- The top five seeded players have been seeded through to the last 16 stage on Sunday.
- The remaining players have been drawn in 10 groups of a maximum of four players
- The top two players from each group will progress to the knockout stage
- The two best qualifiers will be seeded straight into last 16
- All other 18 qualifiers will play a preliminary round match (last 32) on Saturday evening to reach the last 16
- All qualifiers from the group stages will be positioned in the knockout draw according to group stage performance in line with our established qualifying criteria
Group matches will be played over the best of three frames, knockout rounds to be 5/5/5/7/7.
The format for all side-tournaments will be straight knockout.
