Thailand’s Ploychompoo Laokiatphong claimed her breakthrough first ranking event title at the 2023 Asia-Pacific Women’s Snooker Championship in Sydney, Australia.
Having previously reached the semi-finals of three ranking events from 2019-2022, Laokiatphong went all the way at the Mounties Club following a 4-1 victory against compatriot Siripapor Nuanthakhamjan in the final. She had previously defeated reigning world champion Mink Nutcharut and Australian talent Lilly Meldrum in the previous rounds on her way to the title.
A two-time World Women’s Under-21 Championship winner, Laokiatphong established herself as the leading junior player in 2022-23, claiming seven titles as of February 2023.
Laokiatphong made an immediate impact on the WWS circuit as a 16-year-old as she reached the quarter-finals of the 2018 UK Championship, earning a notable victory against seeded player Rebecca Kenna during the group stages.
Alongside her last eight run, the Thai starlet also claimed victory in the Under-21 side-event and compiled a tournament-high break of 62.
